We Will Be Leaving Soon

Today’s Reading: John 14:1-6

Acts 1:11 —  “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!”

God promises to return to receive us. Are you patiently waiting for the Lord’s return? James said that farmers sow their seed and eagerly look forward to the harvest. In the same way, James says, we ought to be waiting for Jesus to come again, “for the coming of the Lord is near” (James 5:7-8).

Again and again, the Holy Spirit inspired the New Testament writers to tell us that the coming of Christ is immanent and that we should be ready to meet Him at any moment. Jesus promised that He would come and get us to bring us to the Father, since He is the only way to the Father.

The stubborn, pride-filled hearts of sinners do not like Jesus’ statement in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” People are offended by Jesus’ claim to be the only way to heaven, and they say that what Jesus said is “too exclusive.”

The world preaches a false gospel of inclusivity. The world lies and says "there are many ways to heaven" or "all people go to heaven." The underlying message of these false gospels is that people do not have to rely on God or even believe in God to go to heaven. These false gospels replace the atoning sacrifice of Christ with the efforts of man, and make Christ’s sacrifice meaningless.

But we know that Jesus Christ had to come from heaven to save us because there is nothing we could ever do to save ourselves. Heaven reached down to us. God was seeking us because we did not know the right way. Jesus came down so that we could go up. The coming of the Lord Jesus is near. Get ready and let others know that we will be leaving soon.
