Today’s Reading: Matthew 10:16-20
Matthew 10:20 — For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
God promises the right words at the right time. Jesus spoke to His disciples of the persecution they would face for preaching the gospel. The disciples would have to stand before governors and kings and give a defense for their message. Jesus said, “Do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.”
Why should the disciples not be anxious? Jesus said that the Holy Spirit of God the Father would speak through them. When the disciples opened their mouths, God would fill them with His words.
Many of us have a fear of speaking to people that we do not know. Some of us even have a fear of speaking to people that we do know, especially when we are given an opportunity to share the gospel with them. We are afraid of saying the wrong things or of saying the right things in the wrong way.
But Jesus says that if we, by faith, open our mouths to speak the truth of the gospel, we do not have anything to fear, because it will not be us who speaks, but the Spirit who will do the real speaking. Our words should, of course, be informed by the truth from the Bible and not be our personal opinions or our feelings.
If we stick to the basic facts of the simple gospel, we are on solid ground and the Spirit will empower those words to speak to someone’s heart about God’s love and their need as a sinner for God’s grace and forgiveness.
God promises that He will put the right words in our mouths at the right time so that people will have the opportunity to hear the gospel truth. Have faith in God’s promise to speak through you when you share the simple gospel. God will do it!

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable (Proverbs 10:32). Righteous people know what is acceptable to God and that they have to talk like Him.

“하나님은 적절한 때에 적절한 말을 우리 입에 넣어 주실 것이라고 약속하십니다.”
“하나님은 적절한 때에 적절한 말을 우리 입에 주실 것이라고 약속하십니다.”
의로운 자의 입술은 무엇이 받아들여질 수 있는지 압니다(잠언 10:32). 의로운 사람은 무엇이 하나님께 받아들여질 수 있는지 알고 있으며, 그분처럼 말해야 한다는 것을 압니다.
