Protection From the Evil One

2 Thessalonians 3:3 — But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

In Matthew 6:13, Jesus told His disciples that they ought to pray for deliverance from the evil one, who is the devil. Here in 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Paul tells us that our Lord Jesus will be faithful to strengthen us and guard us from the evil one. This is yet another wonderful benefit of being one of God’s children.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:8 that “your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” The Father knows that His children need protection from the evil one, so He promises to strengthen and guard us in anticipation of our prayer for deliverance.

Each day, the evil one has a strategy, a spiritual battle plan, that he wants to use against us to keep us from living by faith in the way of grace. Before you woke up this morning, the devil was getting ready to bombard you with thoughts and distractions designed to keep you from prayer, from time in God’s Word, and from starting your day without wearing your spiritual armor.

We need to be wise and ready. If we know that we have a spiritual enemy, we should expect his attacks and be prepared to face his wily ways every day. Pray for the Lord’s protection for you and your family, and ask God to put a hedge around you like He did for Job (Job 1:10). Pray for God to have His angels to watch over you and the ones you love. Prayer is powerful protection, so use it.
