Hebrews 10:34 — You knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
The author of Hebrews wrote to Jewish believers who were facing persecution for their Christian faith. Some of them were considering abandoning Christ and returning to life under the law of Moses. The author of Hebrews wrote to encourage these Jewish believers to hold fast to the better covenant that had given them access to God’s throne of grace and mercy.
The Hebrew believers were reminded of how well they had started their Christian journey of faith. In the beginning, they endured struggles and suffering. They once stood side by side with other believers who were ridiculed and persecuted for their belief in Jesus. They supported Christians that had been imprisoned and even joyfully accepted the confiscation of their property.
But now these believers were growing weary in well-doing. Their faith was fading in the face of prolonged suffering. When the Hebrew Christians were new believers, their faith had been bright and confident. Their eyes were once fixed on Christ and the promise of their eternal inheritance; but now their eyes were set on temporal trials and tribulations.
We can become too settled and comfortable in this world, too attached to the things of this world, too concerned about what others think about us as Christians. We can lose sight of what originally drew us to Christ and try to avoid the cross. We need to remember that what we have in Christ is a better possession, an abiding life that is worth any suffering or shame we have to endure.
Let us persevere by faith despite age, opposition, or anything else that tempts us to “throw in the towel” and settle for a lukewarm life of ease without spiritual vitality.

Hebrews 10:34 NLT
[34] You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever.
If I don't put everything I have in the Lord while I live, I don't know how I can endure such bitter and painful experiences. I shared the pain with those in prison, and when I was in a situation where everything I had was taken away,…
